Spero-an eco-friendly e-bicycle holds the prestigious tag of being India’s first crowdfunded electric bicycle. The Spero was launched recently after many years of research and development. The Spero e-bicycle is manufactured by a 6-member team headed by co-founder Mr. S. Manikandan. The Spero is the result of funds acquired through crowdfunding platform FuelADream. The e-bicycle has a target of Rs. 30 lakhs and is set to hit it soon.
The base variant(e30) of the Spero can travel up to 30 km when fully charged. However, the more advanced variants are claimed to cover 60 km(e60) and 100km(e100) respectively on a full charge. The 5-speed electric bicycle can reach speeds of upto 25 kmph in about 10 seconds, which is quite impressive. The Spero can be charged by pedalling which means that as you pedal, you are charging your bicycle which means that you can extend the range of the bicycle on the go. The Spero’s batteries are manufactured by Samsung whereas the motor and the tyres are sourced from other companies in South Korea. The rest of the materials including the frame are locally sourced thereby resulting in a truly global product.
The Spero’s Samsung battery is a 48V Lithium-ion unit and it comes with a 1 year warranty. The battery supposedly charges from 20% to 80% in about 4 hours. The list of features offered on the Spero is quite generous. The e-bicycle gets a cruise control system, digital speedometer, a smartphone charger, 5-speed drivetrain and a charge indicator.
The e-bicycle will be available for pre-order very soon. The Early bird pricing and the special crowdfunding pricing will be in the Rs. 29,900 to Rs. 51,000 range depending on the variant. However, the actual price is set at Rs. 55,500 for the e30, Rs. 64,800 for the e60 and Rs. 84,900 for the e100.
