Race Review: Indian Terrain Silicon Valley Sportive powered by Montra

The first of the Indian Terrain Champions Sportives powered by Montra, The Silicon Valley Sportive was conducted in Bangalore on the 20th of August. The event saw 120 participants who registered, among which 40 took part in the 50km ride, and 80 in the race.

Bangalore woke up to a pleasant weather which graced the riders for the entirety of the event. The event was flagged off by representatives of Indian Terrain and Montra, the 100km race beginning at 6 am and the 50km ride at 6.10 am. The starting point, Ciclo Café – Indiranagar, was abuzz with excitement and collective energy of the riders who were there to ride out, in the wee hours of Sunday morning. After flag-off they rode out towards Hoskote and then onto the Bangalore- Tirupathi highway. The 50 km riders pedalled their way to the 25km mark, on the highway to take a U-turn and ride back, completing a total distance of 50 kms. While the 102-km race went onto the 50km mark and completed the 102km loop back at Ciclo Café. The lovely monsoon-y weather, coupled with a scenic route was a great way to spend a Sunday on the saddle.

The 100km race saw the lead riders going at a steady pace of 35-40 km/hr, completing the race well under the 3-hour mark.  

The standings for the 102-km race are as follows:  

Men 

1st place – Phanibusan Mahapatra (2h:49m) 

1st runner up – Kiran Raju (2h:49m) 

2nd runner up – Akshay Hyanki (2h:49m) 

This was a close finish with the timing difference being a few milliseconds apart as the riders crossed the finish line. 

Women 

1st place – Lakshmi Thangadurai (3h:18m) 

Hearty congratulations to the winners, it’s time to get ready for the Grand Finale in Delhi. And, a huge shout out of appreciation to all the participants and finishers of the 50km ride and 102km race. The Indian Terrain Championships Sportive is off to a great start – 1 down, 7 to go. Gurgaon, it’s time to get your helmets and cleats on, the Championships Sportive is on its way to you.
