Race Review: Indian Terrain Golconda Sportive powered by Montra

The third in the Champions Sportive series – The Golconda Sportive, was held in Hyderabad on the 10th of September. The event saw the highest turn out of participants so far, a whopping 156 riders! 

Though the day dawned warm and a hotter day was predicted, the spirit of the participants was undeterred. Ciclo café was abuzz with excitement and energy as riders showed up as early as 4.30 am, to prepare for the race ahead.   

The event was flagged off from Ciclo Café and went on to the acclaimed TT road of Hyderabad – Chevalla road, and looped back to Ciclo café. The 50km ride looped back earlier.  

The men’s race was dominated by triathlon athlete – Anubhav Karmakar who finished the 89km route in a mere 2 hours and 25 minutes, with a lead of 17 minutes.

The standings for the 89-km race are as follows: 

Men 

1st place – Anubhav Karmakar (2h:25m) 

1st runner up – Arun Kumar (2h:42m) 

2nd runner up – Adhip Gupta (2h:42m)  

With such close timings, 1st runner up and 2nd runner up were differentiated by a second!  

Women 

1st place – Kelsey Ball 

Winning this race was no minor achievement, with the headwinds strong, the terrain challenging and the heat on high! These guys proved that there is truly no terrain too tough. 

Conclusion

Hearty congratulations to the winners, it’s time to get ready for the Grand Finale in Delhi. And, a huge shout out of appreciation to all the participants and finishers of the 50km ride and 89km race. The Indian Terrain Championships Sportive powered by Montra is off to a great start – 3 down, 4 to go. Mumbai, it’s time to get your helmets and cleats on, the Championships Sportive is on its way to you!
