Meet Samira Abraham - National Triathlon Champion, South Asian Triathlon Champion, A dog lover and home baker. We got the opportunity to interact with this woman extraordinaire, and here is what she had to say.

1. If you had to describe yourself in one sentence - What would it be?

If I set my mind to it I’ll get it done   

2. When did you start cycling? 

August 2016   

3. What/Who inspired you to get into cycling? 

A BBCH race   

4. What do you do professionally?  

I’m an athlete, by profession.

5. Besides cycling, what other forms of sports do you partake in?  

Triathlons - Swimming, Running and Cycling.    

6. Tell me about your training regimen, and how you keep up with training on a regular basis. 

Structured training plans in season and always listening to my body, which is a learning process.    

7. What part of your training have you found works for you, but might be different or unique from your teammates or other cyclists?   

The precious times I get to see Zoe my dog and the rest of my family who I’m away from for a large part. Mental well-being is super important. 

8. Who do you look up to in cycling?

Ooh, I have a few, but to pick one Sagan   

9. What has been your best race, till date?

Winning the ITU South Asian Championship   

10.  What has your most challenging experience been, so far?  

I don’t have just the one, there are always challenges, that’s life, and I appreciate the growth that happens from it.

11. What is your take on the frontier of being a female athlete, in India? Have you faced any challenges in the sphere that you’d like to share?

There is conditioning one has to break free from, internally and externally. There is the challenge of finding safe training environments when training solo. The positive being times are changing, there is help and support available.   

12.  Do you have any go-to nutrition tip for pre, during and post riding?

Fuel well and find what works for you   

13.  What do you do when you are not on the saddle? 

Nap! I like to read and bake and when I’m at home, it’s quality time with my doggo.   

Conclusion

Being somebody who has started cycling relatively recently, Samira has quite a few podium places to her name such as a third place in the ITT at the Cycling Nationals two months into her journey as a cyclist, and a second place in the same last year. This year, she won the Triathlon nationals and the South Asian Triathlon Championship. She is currently focussing more on cycling. We are excited to follow her journey as an athlete, and wish her all the best for her future endeavours.
