Peter Sagan apologises for podium misdemeanor

After gaining immense popularity over the last few tours including Milan ‰ÛÒ San Remo and Ghent-Wevelgem, it all went downhill for 23 year old Cannondale Pro Cycling rider Peter Sagan, who after finishing second at the Tour of Flanders pinched podium girl Maja Leye while she was congratulating the winner Fabian Cancellara from Switzerland with a kiss, as is tradition.

Although most people missed the rather crude inappropriate gesture on the podium on Sunday, and Sagan had already left for home to Slovakia, the press and media were quick to catch on and the news has been spreading online like wild fire thanks to social media. åÊThe incident diverted all attention from what seemed to be a thrilling battle for victory at the Tour of Flanders between the Swiss and Slovakian.

Sagan however, realised his mistake soon and issued a public apology to Maja Leye on Twitter (Read tweet here) and also uploaded a video apology on his Facebook account. Maja Leye responded on Twitter as well to reconcile matters.
