A long distance national level cycle rally covering the length of our country. DoesnÛªt it sound exciting? We are talking about the K2K Tour De Rotary which is going start in a few days. We sat down for a talk with the President of Rotary Club of Madras Midtown, Mr.Ambalavanan to get to know more in detail about this event.
Q: What is K2k Tour De Rotary and who is organizing it?
A: K2K Tour De Rotary is a national level cycling rally from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. 20 experienced riders with full support will be covering the length of India from 7th November to 9th December 2016. Rotary Club of Madras Midtown is organizing this 3rd edition of the Tour De Rotary. The previous 2 editions were 100km rides in Chennai.
Q: What is the significance and objectives of this 3rd edition of the Tour De Rotary?
A: We the Rotary Club of Madras Midtown decided to make this 3rd edition bigger because of aåÊfew specific significances. To commemorate the 100th year of The Rotary Foundation (TRF), to raise funds for the Û÷Wash in SchoolsÛª (WINS) which is a long term project of The Rotary Foundation to provide hand wash and toilet facilities in schools, to promote Swachh Bharat and Swachh Vidyalaya campaigns and most importantly for a clean and green India.
Q: Could you tell us about the riders and the events planned around this rally?
A: The complete rally from Kashmir to Kanyakumari will be ridden by 20 experienced cyclists including 1 women rider. The 20 of them will cycle this 4800kms route thus completing a cumulative of 100,000kms. There will be a Relay rally in which an average of 30 cyclists from 10 selected cities along the route will cycle along with the main 20 riders for 300kms. Finally we have the Amateur rally which will organized by the local rotary in multiple cities along the route in partnership with our platinum sponsor Track and Trail where cycling enthusiasts can join the main 20 riders in cycling for 50kms while they pass through their respective cities.
Q: How has the Government supported this rally?
A: The Government and Rotary Club of Madras Midtown is working hand in hand for this rally. Through this rally we are supporting the Swachh Bharat and Swachh Vidyalaya government campaigns by organizing awareness camps along the route. We are thankful to the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India and its Joint Secretary Shri Praveen Prakash IAS for their overwhelming support for this rally.
