Step 1: Choose the Right Bicycle: Start by selecting an appropriate Bicycle for your child. Ensure that it's the right size and height, allowing them to touch the ground comfortably while seated. A well-fitted helmet, knee and elbow pads, and closed-toe shoes are essential for safety.
Step 2: Find the Perfect Location Begin in a spacious, flat, and quiet area free from traffic. An empty parking lot, empty street, or a park with a smooth pathway are ideal places to begin.
Step 3: Teach Balancing Skills Before introducing the pedals, help your child learn to balance on the Bicycle. Start by having them straddle the Bicycle with both feet flat on the ground. Encourage them to walk, glide, and steer the Bicycle to get a feel for it.
Step 4: Introduce Pedals Once they are comfortable with balancing, attach the pedals. Ask your child to sit on the saddle, lift their feet, and practice pedaling. Ensure they understand the motion and how to start and stop.
Step 5: Practice Starting and Stopping Teach your child how to start by pushing off with one foot and placing it on a pedal while using the other foot to push. Practice stopping gently by applying both brakes evenly.
