XMR is the brand name given to the in-house Accessories division of T.I Cycles, one of India’s biggest bicycle brands. XMR offers value for money accessories for recreational riders and urban commuters. We got an opportunity to review the Mini 12 Function Toolkit from XMR and here’s what we think.
The Mini Toolkit from XMR is an innovative little emergency toolkit that the rider can carry around while riding or travelling. The toolkit has one long wrench tool, and multiple small hex key heads that can be attached to the wrench to make it compatible to different sizes of hex bolts on the bicycle. Apart from that, the head of the wrench itself can be used to tighten or remove nuts that might sometimes be attached to bolts.
One more interesting function of this toolkit is that it also encases a couple of small tire levers that clip on to the sides of the toolkit. These can be pulled out whenever there is a flat that needs to be fixed and the tires need to be removed. All the hex bolt heads, the wrench and the tire levers are compactly arranged into one neat little package that can be easily carried around in a saddle bag or a jersey pocket.
The XMR Repair Bit Mini Toolkit has been designed with functionality and mobility in mind. It deftly combines ease of use, and easy portability, which are the key factors when it comes to designing an emergency toolkit, as it would be very tedious and space consuming to carry multiple tools while on-the-go. This is something that every rider would look forward to, as the toolkit has to be something that fits easily into a saddle bag along with a spare tube and some energy bars. This tool does the trick perfectly, and is not too heavy too.
The wrench and the hex bits are made of Alloy, while the body of the toolkit and the tyre levers are made of plastic. While it is ideal to have tire levers in plastic, the body could have been made of alloy, or at least a better grade of plastic, as the body seems very flimsy and might even crack in a crash or if dropped from a height. The colour of the toolkit is a bright fluorescent yellow, which makes it easy to spot it in a clutter, and also looks aesthetically bright and vivid.
Overall Rating
As an emergency toolkit, the XMR Bit Set Mini Toolkit would do its job perfectly, making emergency adjustments and fixes on the go, but then this would not be a preferred toolkit if you are looking to remove/attach components, change bolts, etc. Priced at Rs.395 (as on 29th May 2019), it is also one of the least expensive toolkits available in the market.
