With precision, attention to detail, innovation and value for money being centric values, WaltX offers a range of bicycles designed inline with European standards, that cater to the riding needs of everybody. We got to check out the WaltX City 1. Read on for our thoughts.
Weight: 12.7 kgs
The WaltX City 1 has been made using a TIG welded Steel frame. Though Steel frames are typically associated with being bulky and heavy, the WaltX City 1 is surprisingly lightweight. The tapered tubing is likely the contributing factor to the overall reduced weight. The frame geometry ensures a comfortable, ‘upright’ riding position while not compromising on performance. The frame has the provision to attach a water bottle holder to it.
This bicycle is equipped with a rigid Steel fork that is lightweight and easy to maintain. The design of the fork is such that there is only minimal transfer of vibrations to the handlebar and the rider. This bicycle is available in a single sizing option – 18”.
The WaltX City 1 has been designed keeping the appeal of simplicity and elegance in mind. Designed with a primary colour of Anthracite Grey with Pitch Black graphics, the bicycle comes off as a sleek and elegant with simple branding that is not overwhelming to look at. Additonally, the high quality matte finish enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of the bicycle. This bicycle is available in a single colour option.
The WaltX City 1 is a Single-Speed bicycle. The 44T chain wheel, 18T freewheel and 170mm crankarm ensures smooth pedalling with adequate power for all sorts of urban terrains, including flyovers and underpasses. Though the world is moving towards higher speeds and gears, the simplicity and ease of using a Single-Speed bicycle is unparalleled.
The WaltX City 1 comes equipped with a pair of Power-branded V-brakes. When on the test ride, I found that the brakes were extremely powerful and responsive. Feathered braking felt comfortable and stable requiring just a light press of the brake levers to activate. However, abrupt stopping was very powerful, and completely engaging the brake levers could result in slight instability when bringing the bike to a complete sudden stop.
A wide 580mm handlebar ensures an ‘open-chested’ riding position that is comfortable. Additionally, the length of the handlebar ensured supreme control of the bicycle and quick handling and maneuvering while in congested riding conditions, such as traffic ridden urban roads. The bar grips are slightly hard, but this does not affect the overall performance of the bicycle, when used for urban commutes.
The WaltX City 1 rolls on a pair of Wanda King 26” x 1.95” tires. The ‘raised button’ treading on the tires is close and offers added grip. When on rugged roads, the treading works well to grip the surface – however it could slow the rider down, if ridden on smooth roads. However, the grippy wheels offer added balance and stability, even when on turns. The wheels are equipped with a Quick Release for easy removal.
The WaltX City 1 comes equipped with a PU foam Comfort Saddle. The saddle is wide enough to comfortably accomodate one’s sit bones. I found that the saddle was slightly long and could do with a little extra cushioning. The seat post has a QR option that enables easy and quick adjustment of the saddle height.
The WaltX City 1 comes with ISO certified reflectors (on the pedals, wheels and at the front and back), a side stand, and a set of tools. This bicycle is ideal for beginners looking for a well-priced, durable bicycle for commute, leisure riding and keeping fit. The bicycle is priced at INR 12,349 (as on 30th September 2019).
