Triad recently launched their Electric Bicycle range in India and we got to test ride the Triad E5 Electric Hybrid Bicycle and here is what we thought.
Weight: 21 kgs
The Triad E5 is a Hybrid Electric Bicycle built on a full Alloy frame. Electric bicycles generally tend to be heavier than normal bicycles. But this electric bicycle at 21 kgs is lightweight when compared to other Hybrid E-Bicycles without compromising on its strength, as during test ride it could handle vibrations off the surface easily. This lightweight Alloy frame also contributes towards better pick-up. The riding posture was comfortable with no stress which is perfect for commutes and long distance rides.
The E5 comes with a flattened rigid Alloy fork which helps keep the weight at a minimum in the front. During the test ride the rigid fork handled bumps and potholes with ease.
The Triad E5 comes in full Black Primary colour with Orange and White as the secondary colours for graphics and text. The sleek tube profiles made the bicycle look neat. The battery pack on the bottom tube has colour coded graphics and is also shaped in such a way that it blends well with frame’s shape. The front and rear LED lights were stylish in design and were not only useful features for visibility in the dark but also enhanced the aesthetics of this bicycle.
The Triad E5 which I test rode came with a 7-Speed Shimano Tourney rear derailleur. Gears in an Electric Bicycle help in keeping up to the battery assisted speed of the Bicycle by adjusting the pressure in pedalling. These gears are also useful when the battery charge is low or if the charge has run out, as one can use it to ride efficiently. During the test ride these gears shifted smoothly and the shifters were easy to operate.
The heart of the Triad E5 is the 36V 250W brushless DC Motor with waterproof casing and is located at the rear hub of the Bicycle. The motor is powered by a rechargeable and detachable Lithium Ion battery, with a capacity of 7.8Ah. The mileage on an Electric Bicycle can vary according to weather, rider weight and road inclines, the Triad E5 provides a mileage for 35-50 kilometres in Pedal Assist Mode and 25-35 kilometres in Throttle Mode. The battery takes about 3-4 hours to charge, the battery can be easily detached and can be carried separately either at home or at the office.
The bicycle functions on two operating modes, one being Pedal Assist and the second being hub and Throttle driven. In the Pedal Assist mode, there are 3 levels – each level determining the amount of battery push provided for each pedal rotation. Level 1 being the least and level 3 being the highest battery push, you can change between levels from the LED Controller on the handlebar. The level 3 Pedal Assist setting allowed me to reach 25 kmph with minimum effort. In Throttle Mode, you can get this Electric Cycle moving by simply rotating the throttle on the right grip of the handlebar, similar to the accelerator on motorbikes and scooters. The maximum speed achievable in this mode is 25 kmph. The pick-up was impressive while using both modes and the electric power was more than sufficient to effortlessly climb flyovers, up-hill roads and to get moving quickly from a traffic signal.
The Triad E5 comes with Logan Mechanical Disc brakes at the front and rear. When riding in the City through traffic, braking is an important component, in case one needs to get the Bicycle to a complete stop in a balanced manner. During the test ride the Mechanical Disc brakes on this E-Bicycle worked efficiently, giving me the confidence to ride fast and stop safely while riding in traffic. Both the brake cables acts as a motor cut off, and it responds quickly.
The raiser handlebar on this bicycle is 600mm long allowing for a comfortable riding position. The reach to the console on the left, and the grip accelerator on the right was easy, without putting any strain on your arms and hands.
The Triad E5 comes with DSI 700x35C Hybrid tires. The 700C circumference ensured fast rolling and the treading pattern ensured these tires are grippy on both rough and wet roads. The saddle on this bicycle is comfortable, it was well cushioned throughout, leaving no room for saddle sores or general discomfort when used on longer rides.
This Electric Bicycle is built on a comfortable and lightweight alloy frame which holds the powerful 7.8 Ah lithium-ion battery. This battery along with the brushless motor gives an impressive pick-up and a maximum speed of 25 km/hr. The powerful Logan Mechanical Disc brakes along with the fast rolling 700x40C Kenda tires make it easy and safe to zip through traffic. Priced at Rs.39,115 (as on 26th February 2020) the Triad E5 is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy a powerful and comfortable Electric Bicycle for Fitness and Commuting purposes.
