Ninety One is an Indian Bicycle brand and their range includes Electric, MTB, Hybrid and City Bicycles for Men, Women and Children. This fairly new entrant to the Indian Bicycle market has come out with an extensive range with numerous designs and colours. We got the opportunity to test ride the Ninety One Defeatr Pro 29T and here is what we thought.

The Ninety One Defeatr Pro 29T is an entry-level all-rounder MTB for comfortable leisure rides on both rough roads and flat trails.
The Ninety One Defeatr Pro 29T is built around a Hardtail Hi-Ten Steel frame. While steel is known to be heavy, this Bicycle has a good distribution of weight which was evident when riding on both flats and inclines. The geometry was standard and comfort focused with a slanting top tube.
We can say this Bicycle is more of an urban focused and not a complete trail friendly by the functioning of the suspension fork. The suspension on this Bicycle has minimal working travel which is just sufficient for bumps, potholes and unpaved surfaces.
This Bicycle is built on a Hardtail Steel frame and comes in a standard frame size
The Defeatr Pro 29T from Ninety One which I test rode came with Black as the primary colour and Red as the secondary colour for the graphics and text. The graphic colour coded saddle with Defeatr text is definitely eye catching. The matte finish paint job was top notch in quality and the heavily treaded tires and slanting top tube gives it the rugged MTB look.

The Ninety One Defeatr Pro 29T comes equipped with Skilful branded front and rear derailleurs. These are entry-level gearing components and they performed to their limits during the test ride. On rough urban roads and flat trails, these derailleurs were ideal for quick and short gear changes. The Skilful 21-Speed trigger shifters were easy to use and in easy reach from the handlebar grips.

This MTB’s stopping power is handled by a pair of Purk Mechanical Disc brakes at the front and rear. These brakes were powerful, safe and balanced on both rough and smooth roads. Both interval and jamming of brakes felt in control when used during the test ride.
The riser handlebar on this bicycle was both comfortable and wide enough to give the rider an open-chested riding posture.

The Hartex 29” x 2.1” MTB tires on the Ninety One Defeatr Pro 29T was heavily treaded and generated a lot of traction on rough surfaces. While the 29” circumference handles the efficient riding over rough surfaces the 2.1” width makes sure the Bicycle is stable and balanced even on wet and muddy surfaces.
The stock saddle had enough cushioning to keep the rider comfortable on bumpy rides.

This is an entry-level MTB with an aesthetic matte finish and design. The 29” x 2.1” tires and Mechanical Disc brakes make sure the Bicycle can handle fast rides on rough surfaces. While the Bicycle comes in a standard frame size, the riding posture was comfortable. Priced at Rs.17,199 (as on 5th March 2021) the Ninety One Defeatr Pro 29T is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy a Bicycle for leisure rides on rough roads and flat trails.
