One of T.I Cycles most successful brand names, Mach City has grown immensely in terms of popularity with the masses looking for an affordable city bicycle. From the initial line of BSA Mach 22 bicycles to the Munich Series, this brand has indeed come a long way. We got the opportunity to test the Mach City Munich 21 Speed 2018, and here is what we thought.
Weight: 18 kgs
The Mach City Munich 21 Speed has been made using a lightweight hybrid steel frame. While steel is known to be on the heavier side, the design of this bicycle and the welding on the frame contributes towards reducing the overall weight of this bicycle. The geometry of the frame ensures a comfortable, upright riding position. This bicycle comes equipped with a rigid fork. Additionally, there are mounting provisions for a water bottle holder, a rear carrier and mudguards at the front and back.
The Mach City Munich 21 Speed has been designed keeping simplicity and the appeal of color coding in mind. The welding on the edges of the frame looked simple and neat. The bicycle we test rode came in a black with green colour combination. The main frame of the bicycle is in black, while the fork is coloured in green with similar colour coded branding and brake cables. The colours used on this bicycle are sure to catch attention of people.
As in the name of this bicycle, this Munich comes with a 21 Speed drivetrain. Shimano’s entry-level Tourney are the derailleurs at the front and rear. The 3-Speed in the front and 7-Speed at the rear were ideal for riding in the city with a bit of incline. The gears shifted smoothly without much lag. The Shimano trigger shifters with indicators were easy to use.
The Mach City Munich 21 Speed comes equipped with Sypo branded alloy V-brakes that offer adequate stopping power for city usage. However, the brakes are not as effective when riding on wet and slippery surfaces, and require some extra force to bring the bicycle to a complete stop.
The handlebar on this bicycle has a slight upward curvature thus ensuring a comfortable, upright riding position. The width of the handlebar allows for superior control and maneuverability in crowded riding conditions. The handlebar grips were on the harder side, which might affect cyclists using the bicycle on longer duration rides.
The Mach City Munich 21 Speed comes equipped with Ralson 700x35C hybrid tires. The tires are fast rolling, with enough traction for city usage and occasional longer distance riding. The front wheel is fitted with a quick release, which makes removing and putting the wheel back on much simpler. The threading and width of the tires makes the bicycle more stable and balanced on bumpy surfaces.
This bicycle comes equipped with a comfortable foam saddle that is wide enough to comfortably accommodate one’s sit bones. Additionally, the seat post has a quick release option, making adjusting the height of the saddle easier on the go.
There have been no major changes in the componentry of the Mach City Munich 21 Speed 2018, when compared to the previous model. The standard frame size has been bumped up from 18” to 19”. This bicycle is ideal for beginners looking for a basic city bicycle for commuting and occasional longer distance leisure rides.
