Things We Like

  • Strong and lightweight Alloy frame
  • Performance focused 24-Speed Tourney/Acera gears
  • Heavily treaded 27.5” tires

Things We Don't Like

  • Could have had Shimano’s Altus or above as the front derailleur instead of Tourney at this price
Giant ATX 1 2019 Frame

The ATX 1 (2019) is built with a strong yet sleek Giant ALUXX grade butted aluminium frame. The head tube is only oversized on account of a ledge that curves up from the triangular down tube. The down tube also curves and tapers, before flaring out slightly to support the threaded and sealed bottom bracket.

The Suntour XCT front suspension fork is all about performance. With its 100mm travel this suspension fork can handle the roughest of trails with ease. The suspension lockout was helpful for the fork to get stiffer and thus ride faster on flatter surfaces.

Giant ATX 1 2019 Design

The Giant ATX 1 (2019) which I test rode came in a Grey frame with Orange and Black graphics. The matte finish paint job was perfect and the Grey and Orange colours were of perfect contrast. The internal cable routing made the bicycle look neat and also saves the cables from dirt and in turn prolonging the life of the cables and performance of braking and shifting.

Giant ATX 1 2019 Gearing

The Giant ATX 1 (2019) gets a 3x8-Speed Shimano Tourney in the front and Acera at the rear as the drivetrain. This 24-Speed drivetrain gives the capabilities one needs on trails. These gears are just enough for moderate level climbs and quick shifts. The Shimano EF500 trigger shifters were easy to operate.

Giant ATX 1 2019 Gearing The 24-Speed Shimano Tourney/Acera gears shifted smoothly with no lags
Giant ATX 1 2019 Brakes and Steering

This hardtail MTB features Tektro Mechanical Disc brakes at the front and rear. They are as powerful in both wet and dry conditions, so you won’t have to worry about cycling on rainy days. These Mechanical Disc brakes performed well during the test ride and were more than sufficient for moderate trails and rough urban roads.

The Giant Sport XC handlebar was a bit aggressive and that slight raise from the middle contributed to the little bit of comfort to the rider in terms of riding posture.

Giant ATX 1 2019 Wheels and Saddle

The ATX 1 (2019) gets Giant’s own brand wheels, matching double walled Alloy rims to provide quick and stable rolling. The 27.5” x 2.1” Giant Quick Cross tires were treaded to give maximum traction on all kinds of roads and flat rough trails.

The stock Giant Contact Comfort (Neutral) Saddle has been designed for trail rides. The shape and width of the Saddle was comfortable to keep the rider seated safe without any soreness and slips.

This hardtail MTB is comfortable to ride and is lightweight. The Mechanical Disc brakes were powerful and were safe to use on both wet and dry surfaces. Performance focused Shimano Tourney/Acera derailleurs were smooth in shifting. Priced at Rs.41,999 (as on 26th December 2019) the Giant ATX 1 (2019) is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy a MTB for both trail rides and urban roads.
