Frog is an Indian bicycle brand. Their range includes bicycles for Men, Women and Children. This fairly new entrant to the Indian bicycle market has come out with an extensive range with numerous designs and colours. We got the opportunity to test ride the Frog Granite 27.5” and here is what we thought.
Weight: 13.7 kgs
Usage: Leisure/Commute
The Frog Granite 27.5" has been built using a hardtail precision Steel frame. While Steel is known to be on the heavier side, the design of this bicycle and the welding on the frame contributes towards reducing the overall weight of this bicycle. The geometry of the frame ensures a comfortable, upright riding position. This bicycle comes equipped with a rigid suspension fork that is colour coded with the frame. Additionally, the frame houses a mounting option for a water bottle cage. The bicycle is available in a single sizing option.
The Granite 27.5” from Frog that I test rode came with Black as the primary colour with Turquoise Blue as the secondary colour for the graphics and text. The matte finish paint job was top notch in quality. The Blue brake cables were a nice touch, the Blue/Grey saddle with bold ‘Frog’ and ‘Granite’ text is definitely eye catching.
This Frog Granite 27.5" is a straightforward single-speed bicycle. The bicycle is ideal for city commuting and leisure riding. The bicycle would require extra effort while using it on elevated areas in the city, like on flyovers or in cities with variable terrains. Single-speed bicycles are always popular for simple riding needs and easy maintenance.
The Frog Granite 27.5"" comes equipped with ‘Saigun’ branded V-brakes at the front and rear that offer adequate stopping power for city use. The brakes were powerful and strong while tested. The brake cables are colour-coded with the overall colour scheme of the bicycle.
The handlebar on the Frog Granite 27.5"" is wide enough to ensure a comfortable upright riding position. The width of the handlebar allows for superior control and maneuverability in crowded riding conditions. The handlebar grips felt slightly hard while on the test ride.
The 27.5’’ x 2.125’’ tires on the Frog Granite 27.5” were heavily treaded to generate a lot of traction on rough surfaces. The 27.5” circumference made it easy to ride over rough and smooth urban roads. The stock saddle was wide and had enough cushioning to keep the rider comfortable on bumpy rides.
Overall Rating
This bicycle is an Urban Bicycle with a strong Steel frame and a comfortable riding posture. The single-speed drivetrain was easy to pedal and easy to maintain in the long run. The conventional V-brakes were powerful and balanced for stopping. Priced at Rs.8,899(as on 7th August 2019) the Frog Granite 27.5” is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy a bicycle for commuting and leisure rides on smooth and rough urban roads.
