Frog is an Indian Bicycle brand. Their range includes MTB and City bicycles for Men, Women and Children. This fairly new entrant to the Indian Bicycle market has come out with an extensive range with numerous designs and colours. We got the opportunity to test ride the Frog Apollo D 26” and here is what we thought.
Weight: 15 kgs
Usage: Leisure/Fitness
The Frog Apollo D 26” is built around a Hardtail Hi-Ten Steel frame. While Steel is known to be heavy, this bicycle had a good distribution of weight which was evident when riding on both flats and inclines. The geometry was standard and comfort focused with a slanting top tube.
We can say this bicycle is Urban focused and not full-fledged trail friendly by the functioning of the suspensions fork. The suspension on this bicycle has minimal working travel which is just sufficient for bumps and pot holes.
The Apollo D 26” from Frog which I test rode came with Orange as the primary colour and Black as the secondary colour for the graphics and text. The Black/Orange Saddle with Frog text is definitely eye catching. The matte finish paint job was top notch in quality. The Frog branded bottle cage and bottle were not just useful accessories but they also looked good on the Bicycle.
The Apollo D 26” comes equipped with a Single-Speed drivetrain. The pedalling was easy on flat and rough surfaces. It is a bit of a struggle to pedal on inclines which will require extra effort. Positives of a Single-Speed drivetrain is that it is easy to maintain and simple to ride.
This Urban MTB’s stopping power is handled by a pair of YinXing Mechanical Disc brakes at the front and rear. These brakes were powerful, safe and balanced on rough and smooth roads. Both interval and jamming of brakes felt in control when used during the test ride.
The riser handlebar on this bicycle was both comfortable and wide enough to give the rider an open chested riding posture.
The 26” x 2.3” MTB tires on the Frog Apollo D 26” were heavily treaded to generate a lot of traction on rough surfaces. While the 26” circumference handles the fast rolling resistance, the massive 2.3” width made sure the bicycle is stable and balanced on muddy and rough roads. The stock saddle had enough cushioning to keep the rider comfortable on bumpy rides.
This is an Urban MTB with an aesthetic matte finish colour and design. The wide 2.30” tires and Mechanical Disc brakes make sure the bicycle can handle fast rides on rough surfaces. While the bicycle comes in a standard 17” frame size, the riding posture was comfortable. Priced at Rs.11,499 (as on 30th January 2020), the Frog Apollo D 26” is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy a Bicycle for leisure rides and commutes on rough and smooth roads.
