During the test ride the Steel frame was strong and could handle rough /bumpy roads and also had a geometry design which was comfortable to ride.
This minimal travel was nevertheless smooth in operation.
For urban commutes, fitness rides and flat trails this gearing performance is sufficient.
The JAK branded Mechanical Disc brakes were powerful for muddy and wet surfaces on both flat trails and roads.
The Wanda 29” x 2.10” tires can tackle rough surfaces easily.

Firefox is an Indian Bicycle brand who have been around for a long time now. From Kids Bicycles to Women specific Bicycles and performance focused MTB’s, they have it all. Firefox has a wide range of hardtail MTB’s and we got the opportunity to test ride the Firefox Fusion D 29 21-Speed and here is what we thought.

A proper urban MTB for riding on the roughest of urban roads and flat trails.
The Firefox Fusion D 29, like its 26” and 27.5” models is built on a full Steel frame. It might be a bit surprising to see a Steel frame instead of a Alloy on a MTB at this price but being an Urban MTB the weight difference will not affect riding efficiency. The frame geometry and build makes this Bicycle capable of doing some rigorous riding on flat/rugged trails and on the worst of urban roads. During the test ride the Steel frame was strong and could handle rough /bumpy roads and also had a geometry design which was comfortable to ride.
Being a hardtail the Fusion D 29 comes with a Zoom entry-level suspension fork with a minimal 50mm travel. This minimal travel was nevertheless smooth in operation.
The Hardtail Steel frame comes in 2 sizes, 18” and 19.5”
This bicycle which I test rode came in a full Black colour with Blue and Orange graphics. The bulked up bottom tube and triangular shaped top tube make this bicycle look sharp. The welds were neat and weren’t too prominent at the joints. The matte finish paint job was of top quality and definitely looked premium.

The Fusion 29 comes with a 21-Speed Shimano Tourney/Microshift Mezzo at the front and rear as derailleurs. These are the most entry-level MTB gear components. For urban commutes, fitness rides and flat trails this gearing performance is sufficient. The trigger shifters were easy and comfortable to use.
Note - The Firefox Fusion 29 D 29 21S comes with Shimano or Microshift drivetrains.

The stopping power on this 29er hardtail MTB is taken care of by a pair of JAK branded Mechanical Disc brakes. These brakes are an upgrade from the V-brakes seen on the 26” Fusion and were powerful in stopping amidst traffic and even flat muddy surfaces.
The 660mm MTB handlebar was wide and gave optimum control for the rider when riding through fast paced flat trails and also when maneuvering through traffic on urban roads.

The Firefox Fusion comes with a pair of Wanda 29” x 2.10” MTB tires. These tires have bulky treads and a uniform tread pattern which provided good traction on tar and non-tar surfaces. The wheelset was good for faster rolling resistance as well as being balanced on flat trails.
The stock saddle from Firefox is not the most ergonomic in design but it is well cushioned so that you wouldn’t need an extra gel or foam seat cover.

This Steel Hardtail MTB has a comfortable frame geometry and a wide 660mm handlebar. The powerful Mechanical Disc brakes made it easy to stop on flat trails and urban roads. The 29” tires were heavily treaded and fast rolling as well. Priced at Rs.19,800(as on 12th August 2020) the Firefox Fusion D 29 21S is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy a bicycle for riding on flat trails during the weekend and on urban roads during the week.
