Cosmic as a brand has been active in bringing out more number of bicycles to the market in recent times. This is the standard full suspension bicycle from Cosmic to cater to the young adults for basic commuting. Read on to know more about the Cosmic Orbiter GS 21 Speed in this detailed review.
The Cosmic Orbiter GS 21 Speed is equipped with a full suspension steel frame. These full suspensions were first introduced to bring in an exciting feature on teenage bicycles which is more of style than purpose. That being said the rear suspension does work to an extent, enough to take in the shocks from smaller bumps and speed breakers on city roads. The front suspension works enough to absorb vibrations on to the handlebar and hands, making the ride more stable.
The Orbiter GS comes in a classic full black colour with yellow accents visible at a few places. The bicycle comes fitted with both the front and back plastic clipped adjustable mudguards which are not only useful for the occasional rainy day but also brings the MTB trail look to the Orbiter GS. The most attractive design feature of the Orbiter is the matte black finish which is smooth and makes it stand out in a crowd.
Gears are slowly becoming a standard feature in all teenage bicycles. It not only improves the riding experience and aesthetics but also comes in handy for boys and girls to ride faster and pedal easier. The entry level Shimano Tourney is the gearing used at the front and rear which worked without much hassle during our test ride. The Revo grip shifters on the Cosmic Orbiter GS helped the 21 speed gearing to be changed comfortably. The rear-right shifter did feel a little tighter to turn while on the higher numbered gears (5-6-7).
This Cosmic bicycle comes with the standard V-brakes at the front and back. The brake pads are thick enough and provide enough stopping power for the turns and quick city halts. Wet condition braking might be a little slower and unresponsive but just needs more caution and no jamming of brakes. The brake levers are long and in a comfortable hand reach position for a pain free braking experience even for smaller hands.
The straight handlebar with a raised position makes sure the rider has an upright posture. The handlebar grip lengths were slightly compromised because of the presence of grip shifters which take away a bit of the handlebar grip length.
The stock 26'' MTB tires is clearly the best feature on the Cosmic Orbiter GS 21 Speed. These tires have thick and neatly shaped treads providing excellent grip even on a rainy city road. The wheels over-all are heavy, to compensate the thicker 26'' tires but it isn't too much of a worrying factor for a rider using it for short city rides. The ride quality is not all that rigid and shattering as expected from a full steel bicycle. The suspensions and the upright riding posture do make it a comfortable to ride around the city.
The Cosmic Orbiter GS 21 Speed bicycle is a full suspension bicycle which is not to be confused with the full-fledged full suspension mountain bicycle. These bicycles are meant to be ridden inside the city. Targeted primarily at teenage boys and girls, this Cosmic Orbiter is a comfortable bicycle with features enough to excite any rider of that age group.
