Cannondale is an International bicycle brand with an American history behind it. The Quick series of hybrids are famous for it’s smooth ride quality and aesthetic design. The 2018 range of bicycles from Cannondale hit the Indian market recently and we got the opportunity to test ride the Cannondale Quick 3 Disc (2018) and here is what we thought.
The Quick 3 Disc from Cannondale is the highest in the Quick range. Built using Cannondale’s SAVE (Synapse Active Vibration Elimination) technology this frame is not just lightweight but also super comfortable to ride on urban roads. The SAVE tech does make the frame absorb most of the vibration from the surface giving a smooth riding experience. The upright riding position with flat bars is great for commuting and leisure riding; your head is up, giving comfort, control and vision. The bladed forks perform a similar role to the rear triangle; the carbon fork material contributes to the lightweight frame.
Like the other bicycles in the Quick series the Quick 3 also comes with a simple yet elegant design. The frame comes with a full Anthracite colour with a green and white stripes design on the fork, seat tube and chain stays. The gloss paint job is of superior quality and shines. The thin chains stays and bladed forks make the bicycle look sleek. The ergonomic handlebar grips and the internal cable routing enhanced the aesthetics of this bicycle.
The gearing in the Quick 3 Disc is what makes this bicycle a flat bar road bicycle. This bicycle is powered by a Shimano Sora road drivetrain. During the test ride these derailleurs were super quick in transmission. The Sora shifters and derailleurs move smoothly through 18 gears to help you take on any road.
Same as in the Quick 5, the Quick 3 also comes equipped with a set of Tektro’s M-285 Hydraulic Disc brakes. These brakes are the most powerful set of brakes you can find on hybrids or flat bar road bicycles. They reacted well and felt safe and balanced to use in traffic.
The C3 stock handlebar from Cannondale was flat like found on performance MTB’s. This gives the aggressiveness required to generate speed off the bicycle. The ergonomic handlebar grips keep your palms comfortable on longer rides.
The Schwalbe Spicer 700x30C tires are also the same as found on the Quick 5. These tires are built for all weather conditions. With a lot of small treads evenly spaced out these tires are perfect for urban roads. The protective layer on the inside of the tire is really useful and helps save the tire from small punctures.
The stock Cannondale Fitness Ergo saddle was ergonomic in shape with widest part of the saddle holding the sit bones in place on longer rides. The material did feel a little slippery and the material of clothing could compensate for it.
Overall Rating
This bicycle is for someone looking for a decent quality ride, whether they are commuting or tackling some longer cycling challenges. You could even take on touring with this bicycle. It’s not going to win a road race or conquer a rough off-road trail, but that’s not what it’s about. Priced at Rs.60,500 the Cannondale Quick 3 Disc (2018) is an ideal choice for anyone looking for a lightweight and comfortable hybrid bicycle with performance packed road bicycle characteristics.
