Montra is an Indian performance bicycle brand with all types of bicycles for all kinds of riders. The 2019 range of bicycles from Montra have launched in India with a large fleet. We got the opportunity to test ride the Montra Madrock 26” (2019) and here is what we thought.
Weight: 15.6 kgs
Usage: Leisure/Trail
The Montra Madrock 26” (2019) is built on a full Alloy frame with a slightly slanting top tube. The bottom and top tube are joined at the head tube which makes for a strong front half which is capable of absorbing vibrations of the surface. The ride geometry is comfortable with no strain to the back and shoulders.
The Zoom front suspension fork comes with a minimal 60mm travel. This travel was sufficient for bumpy urban roads and flat and slightly rough trails.
This hardtail MTB that I test rode came in a full Black primary colour on the frame with Red, White and Grey graphics. The matte paint job is of good quality with a smooth finish. The design graphics are simple and elegant with minimal work. The slanting top tube, colour coded rims and saddle made this bicycle aesthetic.
The Madrock 26” (2019) comes equipped with Shimano Tourney 21-Speed derailleurs at the front and rear. During the test ride these derailleurs were smooth in shifting and had enough range for short commutes and leisure trail rides. The 3x7-Speed Shimano Tourney shifters were basic with gear indicators and easy spring action.
The Logan Mechanical Disc brakes handle the stopping power on the Madrock 26” (2019). These are basic Mechanical Disc brakes which are enough to keep the bicycle in control on flat, slippery trails. Both jamming of the brakes and interval braking felt safe even at high speeds.
The XMR Alloy 680mm handlebar on this hardtail MTB is perfect in length with a slight 30mm raise. This width enables safe control of the bicycle when riding fast on flat trails and amidst traffic on urban roads.
This hardtail MTB rolls on a pair of 26” x 2.1” Wanda tires. These tires are heavily treaded and made sure the cycle could roll on wet and muddy surfaces safely. The double walled Alloy rims made the wheelset strong. The XMR Sport MTB saddle was perfect in length and had enough padding to keep the rider comfortable on bumpy rides.
Overall Rating
This hardtail bicycle is built on a full Alloy frame and comes with comfortable frame geometry. The Logan Mechanical Disc brakes were powerful and balanced to use. Wanda’s 26” MTB tires were heavily treaded and rolls fast as well. Priced at Rs.15,675(as on 14th August 2019) the Montra Madrock 26” (2019) is an ideal choice for anyone looking for a hardtail MTB for riding on both urban roads and flat trails.
