Mach City is a recently restructured and launched brand from the house of T.I Cycles. From the road bicycle inspired Mach 22 to now, this brand has come a long way. The launch of iBike gave a new outlook to urban cycling. The 2018 models from Mach City saw some exciting new models. We got the opportunity to test ride the Mach City iBike Single Speed 27.5” and here is what we thought.
The Mach City iBike Single Speed 27.5” is built on a steel frame. Yes, Steel is heavy but is strong as well. Which means if maintained properly this frame will last for a long time. The intricate welding and tube shapes have made sure the steel frame could save a few grams. The frame geometry is standard giving the rider an upright and comfortable riding posture.
While it is a functional and simple bicycle, Mach City have always come out with various colour variants for the iBike. This year the Mach City iBike Single Speed comes with 27.5” wheels, which by itself makes the bicycle look taller and bigger. The bicycle I test rode came in a bright red colour with yellow graphics. The matte finish paint job is the most exciting and new feature in the iBike this year. The matte paint job quality was top notch and for sure gave a new outlook to this bicycle. The bottle cage eyelets, front wheel and set post quick release levers are good design additions, which are functional as well.
As in the name of this bicycle, the iBIke 27.5” (2018) comes with a Single-speed drivetrain. This bicycle was easy to pedal during the test ride with no slip or lag. Off the saddle pedalling wasn’t too tight which made climbing over flyovers easy. Maintaining this single speed drivetrain is also easy.
This City bicycle comes equipped with V-brakes at the front and rear. These brakes were safe to use inside the city but lacked balance and felt draggy.
The stock handlebar has been the same as the previous version. The steel handlebar curves from the middle and gives an upright riding posture to the rider. The grips felt a little hard and could have used little more cushioning.
Tires are the most exciting feature of this bicycle. This is the first time we are seeing 27.5” tires on the iBike. Visibly they make the bicycle taller and functionally the 27.5” circumference helps roll faster while being balanced on rough urban roads.
The stock Mach City branded saddle was well cushioned and of the perfect size for a comfortable ride. The overall ride quality was comfortable on city roads.
Overall Rating
This bicycle is a new model launched for 2018. The comfortable frame geometry and a simple single speed drivetrain made it a joy to ride. The 27.5” wheel size upgrade definitely made it roll over muddy surfaces on urban roads easier. If you are someone looking for a simple bicycle to ride on both smooth and rough city roads the Mach City iBike Single Speed 27.5” (2018) is an ideal choice for you.
