Liv, the women-specific cycling brand from Giant. Initially starting out as Liv/Giant, the brand has established themselves exclusively in the market as Liv, the brand by women, for women. To emphasize this, their bicycles are designed by women and the entire company of Liv comprises of women. We got an opportunity to review the Enchant 2, from their 2016 range of cycles. Here is what we thought.
The Enchant 2 has been manufactured using the in-house Giant ALUXX-grade aluminium. This makes the frame lightweight yet uncompromising. The low frame height makes this an 'easy-to-ride' mountain bike. The geometry of the frame ensure a comfortable upright riding position. It's downward sloping top tube makes is easy to mount and dismount. It is ergonomically designed and ensures optimal stability and control while on the saddle.
The SR Suntour M3010AL front suspension fork is commendable, with it's 75mm travel. It is ideal for an MTB of this price range. It allows the rider to ride comfortably on rugged and bumpy trails and paths without feeling the shocks from the trail.
The Enchant 2 comes in one colour variant. The frame is white with blue designs on the tubes. The overall look of this bicycle is commendable and a major thumbs-up for the bicycle. It is sure to catch people's attention parked or while on the road. The women who designed this bicycle has put an emphasis on style so you know you will look as good as you feel while on the saddle.
The Enchant 2 is equipped with Shimano Tourney front and rear derailleurs. Though, for it's price range, the components used could have been slightly upgraded. The shifting is handled by Shimano EZ Fire 41, 21-speed shifters, which when tested was comfortable and had smooth shifting.
The Enchant 2 comes equipped with Tektro TX-122, linear pull V-brakes. Linear pull brakes are a variation of cantilever brakes.'Each arm pivots on a frame fitting called a braze-on.'Like cantilevers, the pivots are located below the rim. The cable housing stops at one arm and the bare cable continues to a pinch bolt on the other arm. Pulling the cable then pulls the arms and brake pads to the rim.¾The braking was extremely responsive and powerful when tested on both wet and dry surfaces.
The handle bar used on the bicycle is made of high-tensile steel and is mid-rise. This ensures commendable control of the bike while riding on rugged paths.
The Enchant 2 comes equipped with 26x1.95'Kenda multi-surface tires.¾26-inch wheels are the original MTB, and still the most common. They are lighter, stiffer, and more robust than their 27.5 or 29 inch counterparts. They are more agile and accelerate better on flat surfaces, but the smaller diameter results in a bumpier ride over rough terrain, and reduced traction compared to larger wheels.
The Enchant 2 priced at Rs.39,200 has been designed in such a way that it can be used on roads as well as on rugged trails and paths. If you are a city rider with an edge for off-road rides, this bicycle should certainly be on your list.
