Hero Cycles is one of the country’s top bicycle brands with a long legacy of being the front runners in bicycle manufacturing in India. The Sprint series are a line of Urban MTBs with strong frames and flashy designs for teenagers and adults. We got the opportunity to test ride the Hero Sprint Next 26T 21 Speed and here is what we thought.

An aesthetic and comfortable to ride full suspension urban MTB with a value for money price tag.
The Hero Sprint Next 26T 21 Speed comes with a full suspension Steel frame. Even though it is heavier than an alloy frame, Steel adds strength to this frame and makes it capable of handling hard surfaces and falls. The frame geometry of the Next is comfort focused and easy to ride. While the Steel’s strength is a positive, this frame weighs 18.7 kgs and is heavy and the same is felt when riding on inclines.
The threadless Steel front suspension fork will break the vibrations generated from bumps on the streets but does not take in all vibrations to give the rider a smooth ride. The colour coordinated Alloy rear suspension is a little more than just an aesthetic feature; it works well on the rough city roads and is easily felt on the saddle.
The Steel frame is strong with a comfortable geometry and comes in 1 standard 17.5” frame size
The bicycle which I test rode came in a Red primary colour with White and Black graphics. The matte finish paint job was top notch in quality. The colour coded cables, saddle, rims and handlebar all enhanced the overall aesthetics of the bicycle. The rear suspension triangle is sporty in design with black coil springs.

Shimano’s Tourney derailleurs are used as front and rear derailleurs on the Next 26T 21 Speed. These 21-Speed derailleurs even though are the most basic version of gears, worked well during the test ride with smooth shifting by the Shimano EF41 trigger shifters.

The ‘Sypo’ branded Mechanical Disc brakes were good addition to a 26T Urban MTB meant for teenage and adult riders. These brakes performed well during the test ride on urban roads making it safe for school commutes and leisure rides in the neighborhood.
The Steel handlebar was comfortable and lengthy to provide an open chested riding posture.

The Ralson 26” x 2.10” MTB tires along with double walled Alloy rims made for a strong set of wheels for this Urban MTB. These tires could handle rough tarmac well thanks to the bulky and evenly spread out treads.
The stock Comfort PU saddle on the Next 26T was not the most ergonomic in design but has enough cushioning to keep the rider sore free on bumpy roads.

This Urban MTB is built for comfort and handled rough patches on urban roads with ease. Be it wet or dry conditions the 26” MTB tires along with the Mechanical Disc brakes handled the urban roads well. The 21-Speed Shimano Tourney derailleurs helped shift gears in a smooth and quick manner. Priced at Rs.10,230(as on 22nd October 2019) the Hero Sprint Next 26T 21 Speed is an ideal bicycle for teenagers and adults for leisure rides and short commutes.
