Hero’s Octane series of bicycles are aimed at manufacturing bicycles which are functional and performance focused while being value for money. Mostly consisting of City, Hybrid and MTB’s these models are for all kinds of riders. We got the opportunity to test ride the Hero Octane Firefly and here is what we thought.
Weight: 13.5 kgs
Category: Leisure/Commute
The Hero Octane Firefly is built on a 6061 Alloy frame. This frame has been built keeping in mind the perfect combination of lightweight and strength that made sure the vibrations of potholes and speed breakers on the road are absorbed well. The frame geometry was simple and comfortable.
This city bicycle which I test rode came in a full Orange frame colour with Black used for the logos and graphics. The frame geometry is as simple as it can get and comes with a gloss finish paint job. The full Black rigid fork along with the colour coded saddle design made the bicycle look aesthetic.
The Firefly is a single-speed bicycle. This simple drivetrain is easy to maintain and also pedals smoothly on city roads with minimal elevations. The 44T steel crankset along with Spur 18 teeth freewheel made sure the pedaling motion and acceleration was easy even from a stand still point. The pedals could have had more grip and width though.
The Sprandom branded V-Brakes handle the braking on this city bicycle. These brakes were precise and powerful enough for riding amidst traffic on urban roads. The plastic brake levers were basic but did the job well with constant use on busy streets.
The Steel 620mm handlebar comes with a raise in the middle which made the posture comfortable and the padded palm grips decreased the vibration transfers to the hand from the surface.
The Hero Octane Firefly rolled on a pair of Ralson branded 26” x 2.1” tires. These tires with its 26” circumference were fast rolling while the 2.1” width provided enough traction for safe riding on both wet and dry urban roads.
The Spur branded Saddle on this bicycle has perfect cushioning to keep the rider soreness free even on bumpy roads.
