Giant is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of Bicycles. The brand has a whole fleet of Bicycles for all age groups, terrains and levels of riding. From leisure rides to professional racing there is a bicycle in Giant for every purpose. We got the opportunity to test ride the Giant Escape R3 (2019) and here is what we thought.
Weight: 11.2 kgs
The tough and lightweight ALUXX-Grade Aluminium frame on the Escape R3 is built to be lightweight with premium quality. The tubes are butted which means that excess material is removed from low stress areas of the frame, reducing weight without affecting durability or ride quality. The frame tubes are shaped to offer a riding experience that remains stiff and smooth.
The Hi-Tensile Chromoly Steel fork on this Bicycle gives you confident steering control. This composite fork on the Escape R3 is strong and can handle hard bumps on urban roads.
The Escape R3 which I test rode came in a full Ocean Green colour frame with White graphics. The gloss finish paint job quality was top notch and shiny as well. The thin seat stays and chain stays made the bicycle look sleek. The White saddle and handlebar grips definitely enhanced the overall aesthetics of this bicycle.
The Giant Escape R3 features a Shimano Tourney/Altus drivetrain. The Tourney derailleur at the front and Altus at the rear are mid to entry-level components and were sufficient for commuting and fitness rides on urban roads. The 3x8-Speed Shimano EF-500 Alloy trigger shifters were basic and had an easy spring action.
The braking components on the Escape R3 (2019) are V-brakes. The Tektro RX1 V-Brakes at the front and rear were reliable and balanced during the test ride. The reaction time from the levers to the brakes was quick. These brakes were good enough for wet as well as rough urban roads. These V-brakes are as good as any mechanical disc brakes.
The Giant Alloy handlebar was a bit short in length and felt compact to hold on to. While this might not give an open chested riding posture, it is commuter specific and easy to maneuver in traffic.
The 700c Wheels on the Escape R3 offer a road bicycle rolling speed and efficiency. All models in the range feature double wall Aluminium Alloy rims so they are strong enough to take a pounding on the road day-after-day. The 700x28C tires are fast rolling and have enough treading to make the ride smoother on uneven road surfaces.
The Giant Comfort Lite Saddle was ergonomically designed and had a lot of cushioning to keep the rider sore free.
This Hybrid Bicycle is lightweight thanks to its Alloy frame and helps ride efficiently. The riding posture is comfortable and the Tektro V-brakes are quick to react and powerful. With elegant graphics and a gloss finish paint job this Bicycle is premium not only in performance but in looks as well. Priced at Rs.36,999(as on 21st February 2020) the Giant Escape R3 (2019) is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy a Bicycle for commuting and fitness purposes.
