Frog is an Indian Bicycle brand. Their range includes MTB and City bicycles for Men, Women and Children. This fairly new entrant to the Indian bicycle market has come out with an extensive range of bicycles with numerous designs and colours. We got the opportunity to test ride the Frog Vantage X 27.5” and here is what we thought.
Weight: 20 kgs
The Frog Vantage X 27.5” is built around a Hi-Ten Steel frame. This frame has bulky tubes which support the bulky wheel set and the ride geometry is comfortable. The slanting top tube helps the tall bicycle get extra standover clearance for shorter riders. The ECA suspension fork comes with a working travel of 70mm during the test ride, this helps in having a comfortable ride on bumpy roads and trails.
The Vantage X from Frog which I test rode has full Black as the primary colour with Orange as the secondary colour for the graphics and text. The bulky 3” width tires make the bicycle look hefty and strong. The colour-coded cables, fork and rims enhance the aesthetics of this bicycle.
The Vantage X 27.5” comes equipped with Shimano Tourney at the front and rear as derailleurs. These are entry-level gearing components in Shimano’s MTB hierarchy and they performed to their limits during the test ride. On rough urban roads and trails, these derailleurs were ideal for quick and short gear changes. The Shimano EF500 trigger shifters were easy to use and in easy reach from the handlebar.
This Fat Bicycle’s stopping power is handled by a pair of YinXing Mechanical Disc brakes at the front and rear. These brakes were powerful, safe and balanced on rough and smooth surfaces. Both interval and jamming of brakes felt in control when used during the test ride.
The Alloy handlebar on this bicycle was both comfortable and wide enough to give the rider an open chested riding posture.
The DSI 27.5" x 3" FTB tires on the Frog Vantage X was heavily treaded to generate a lot of traction on rough surfaces. While the 27.5” circumference handles the fast rolling resistance the massive 3” width make sure the bicycle can roll over almost any kind of surface. The stock saddle had enough cushioning to keep the rider comfortable on bumpy rides.
This Fat Bicycle is built on a strong Steel frame which is comfortable to ride as well. The 3” wide tires were ideal for riding over any rough surface. The Mechanical Disc brakes were powerful to get this big cycle to a stop. The 21-Speed Shimano Tourney gears helped ride this FTB with ease on inclines as well. The Frog Vantage X 27.5” is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy a Fat Tire bicycle for leisure rides on rough roads and trails.
