Frog Cycles – a brand that believes in honesty, functionality and simplicity produces bicycles, which are durable and value for money. This brand embodies a culture of craftsmanship and engineering to deliver extraordinary bicycles. We got an opportunity to check out the Frog Alphacity 7S 26"", read on for our thoughts.
Weight: 12 kgs
The Frog Alphacity 7S 26"" has been made using a Hi-Ten Steel frame. While Steel is known to be on the heavier side, the design of this bicycle and the welding on the frame contributes towards reducing the overall weight of this bicycle. The geometry of the frame ensures a comfortable, upright riding position.
This bicycle comes equipped with a Steel rigid fork. Additionally, the frame houses a mounting option for a water bottle cage. The bicycle is available in a single sizing option - 19"", more sizing options would have been ideal. A plus is that Frog offers lifetime warranty on the frame.
The Frog Alphacity 7S 26" has been designed keeping simplicity and the aesthetic appeal of a single bright colour with minimal decal work. The welding on the edges of the frame looked simple and neat. The bicycle we test rode came in a bright Yellow with simple Black decals and branding. This bicycle is available in two colour options - Yellow and Blue.
This Frog Alphacity 7S 26" is a 7-Speed bicycle. The bicycle has a Shimano Tourney Rear Derailleur, whose 7-Speed shifting is controlled by Shimano Revo grip shifters. Grip shifters are ideal for those new to geared bicycles given the simplicity of operation. When on the test ride, we found no evident lag in shifting, however there was a slight delay in transmission in the lower ranges. A 7-Speed bicycle has a gearing range wide enough to make city commutes a breeze, while allowing for longer distances on recreational weekend rides.
The Frog Alphacity 7S 26"" comes equipped with Power V-brakes at the front and rear that offer adequate stopping power for city use. The brakes were powerful and strong while tested. However, additional stopping power might be required while on wet and slippery surfaces.
The handlebar on the Frog Alphacity 7S 26"" is wide enough to ensure a comfortable upright riding position. The width of the handlebar allows for superior control and maneuverability in crowded riding conditions. The handlebar grips felt slightly hard while on the test ride.
The Frog Alphacity 7S 26"" comes equipped a pair of Wanda 26"" x 1.95"" tires which are attached to Kelani Alloy Rims. The treading on the tires allowed for a good grip and added traction while on the road, making this bicycle ideal for regular city use and occasional longer distance riding. There is no quick release option on the wheels. Quite notably, the closeness of the threading and the width of the tires make the bicycle more stable and balanced, even on bumpy and rugged surfaces.
This bicycle comes equipped with a comfortable Saddle that is wide enough to comfortably accommodate one’s sit bones. The saddle is colour-coded with the bicycle, adding to the overall aesthetics of this bicycle. There is no QR option on the seatpost, either. The overall ride quality was smooth and favorable.
The Frog Alphacity 7S 26"" is an ideal bicycle for beginners looking for a low-maintenance geared bicycle for regular city commutes and occasional recreational weekend rides. This bicycle makes for a great option for daily commutes in urban or rural areas with rugged roads and paths. The Frog Alpha City 7S is priced at INR 10,449 (as on 20th June 2019).
