Cannondale is a leading American bicycle brand which have been around for many years. Having a huge international market, Cannondale manufacture bicycles for all kinds of riders and for all surfaces. The Quick series are one of the most successful ranges of hybrid bicycles from Cannondale. We got the opportunity to test ride the Cannondale Quick 5 Disc (2017) and here is what we thought.
The Cannondale Quick 5 Disc comes with Quick Disc C3 alloy frame. Most of the Cannondale Quick models feature a lightweight, high-quality aluminium alloy frame. Cannondale are one of the industry leaders in aluminium frame design and the Quick frame features SAVE vibration damping for a smooth ride over rough road surfaces. The Quick 5 Disc gets a lighter weight Alloy fork. This enhances the smooth ride of the Quick by absorbing the vibrations you get when riding over rough road surfaces.
The Cannondale which I test rode came in a full black frame. The gloss paint job was top notch. The white coloured simplistic fonts used for the brand name were of good contrast to the black frame. The bladed forks and the thin chain stays added an aero outlook to the frame geometry.
This hybrid bicycle is equipped with Shimano Altus at the front and Acera at the rear. These derailleurs worked seamlessly during the test ride. Acceleration was a breeze as the shifter to derailleur reaction time was quick. The impressive range of 27-speed Shimano Altus shifters were easy to operate. Although a full Acera drivetrain would have complemented the price tag of this bicycle.
As in the name of this bicycle the Quick 5 does come with disc brakes. The Tektro hydraulic disc brakes at the front and rear were superior in balanced braking. During the test ride these brakes worked well in both wet and dry conditions and even on fast turns. These reliable brakes were good for interval braking amidst traffic.
The Cannondale C4 handlebar was lengthy and gave an open chested riding posture. Also the ergo handlebar grips were perfectly padded to keep the palms comfortable.
The Schwalbe Spicer 700x35C hybrid tires were well supported by Cannondale C4 alloy rims. This lightweight wheelset and tires were perfectly treaded for all kinds of urban road conditions.
The stock Cannondale Quick Ergo saddle was ergonomically designed to provide optimal comfort on those long rides. The overall ride quality was fast and comfortable on urban roads.
Overall Rating
This bicycle is comfortable to ride with its smooth gear shifts and the hydraulic disc brakes made it safe and fast to ride on urban conditions. The gloss black paint job and thin stays made the bicycle look aero. But the derailleurs offered could have been better for price of this bicycle. Priced at Rs.49,900 the Cannondale Quick 5 Disc is a performance focused hybrid bicycle for fitness and commuting purposes.
