Cannondale is one of the largest bicycle brands in the world with a rich history. They are also one of the earliest entrants to the Indian performance bicycle market. Apart from an array of performance bicycles, Cannondale also has a line of top-notch accessories and apparel. We got an opportunity to test and review their 10 function mini multi-tool, and here is what we thought.
Cannondale bicycles are always known for its top-notch quality, and that same affinity to quality is also seen on their line of accessories. The 10-function Mini multi-tool from Cannondale has been designed with quality, aesthetics and functionality in mind. The multi-tool has 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8mm hex drivers that can be used to tighten/loosen most hex bolts on the bicycle. Apart from these, there is also a T25 Torx (Star-type) driver, and the Philips and Flat screwdrivers. These make the Cannondale multi-tool ideal for all types of bolts used in almost all parts of the bicycle.
What really impressed us about this tool was that this was one of the very few tool kits that offers an 8mm hex driver, one that is used to remove/attach pedals. For riders who keep swapping their pedals between different bicycles, and for riders who remove the pedals while travelling, this is a boon, as they would usually need to separately carry an 8 mm hex wrench apart from the regular toolkit. This was a total plus point for us.
The design aspects of this toolkit have been given as much attention as its functionality. This is very evident in the lightweight anodized aluminum side plates that have been given rounded edges that make it easy to grip while using the tool, and also the sleek black finish that makes it look neat and slick. The tools neatly fold within the side plates, and make it easy to stick it into even a small saddle bag and jersey pockets.
The tools themselves are forged from sturdy and lightweight chrome vanadium, and feel stiff and true when applying pressure on them while tightening bolts. One issue that we faced sometimes was that the screws on the side plate used to get loose, making the tools swing out of place, but this could be easily solved by tightening the side screws using a hex driver, alt-hough it sometimes feels tedious, as it is quite ironical that you need an extra set of tools to fix your toolkit!
Overall Rating
A neat, compact and stylishly designed toolkit incorporating the quality that is synonymous with Cannondale, this is one tool that should be on the list of essentials for any road biker or MTB rider. Priced at Rs.799 (as on 11th June 2019), this is a sweet price for a toolkit of this quality.
