Bike Ark is an Indian bicycle brand which was launched few years back. From their initial fixed gear bicycles this brand added geared hybrid bicycles in their 2018 range. Stylish design and colours has always been the core for all models from Bike Ark. The 2019 range was recently launched and we got the opportunity to test ride the Bike Ark Jaz (2019) and here is what we thought.
Weight: 13.6 kgs
Usage: Commuting/Leisure
The Bike Ark Jaz (2019) is built on a Hi-Tensile Steel frame. Steel frames are perceived to be heavy but the build quality has made sure the weight is less. This made the ride smoother and easy to accelerate, even on inclines and flyovers in the city. This is a rigid hybrid with no front suspension. The rigid fork was flat and aero which also contributed to the overall weight being less.
Bike Ark’s strength lies in their design and the overall geometry of the Jaz (2019) has remained the same from the 2018 model. This impressive sleek design is enhanced by a half and half shade of Blue and Black as the primary colours on the frame. White has been used as a secondary colour in a few places including the brand name. The whole frame is painted in a smooth matte finish. The deep-dish rims and sporty ergonomic saddle enhances the aesthetics of this bicycle.
There are no visible changes in the gearing department of the Bike Ark Jaz (2019) when compared to its 2018 predecessor. Shimano’s Tourney TZ30 in the front and Shimano TZ50 at the rear complete the 21-Speed derailleur system. Tourney’s are considered entry-level in the Shimano hierarchy but this recent version of Tourney derailleurs are not only sleek in design but they were also smooth in shifting during the test ride. The shifting was smooth and no lag experienced during the test ride. Shifters for this 21-Speed derailleurs are the EF500 model from Shimano.
The 2019 Bike Ark Jaz’s stopping power is handled by a pair of Z-Star road type caliper brakes. These dual pivot brakes come with forged aluminium arms and a recessed mount which grab on to the rims quickly and tightly for swift and powerful stoppages. The lightweight design and quick release mechanism makes it easy easier to remove and put back.
The 600mm rider handlebar was perfect in length and gave the rider an upright riding posture. The grips felt a bit hard on the hand and could have had more cushioning.
The Kenda Kwest 700x35c tires on the Jaz were ideal for city roads. They were fast rolling and the tread pattern gave enough traction to keep the bicycle safe on slight muddy surfaces and fast turns. The ergonomical stock saddle was designed with the perfect length and width to make sure the rider is comfortable on both bumpy roads and long rides.
This is a pure hybrid with a strong yet lightweight Steel frame. The dual shade frame colour with a smooth matte finish paint job was aesthetic and comes in 4 colour variants. The Z-star road caliper brakes and Kenda 700C tires made this bicycle roll faster and stop quicker. Priced at Rs.12,499(as on 14th June 2019) the Bike Ark Jaz (2019) is an ideal choice for anyone looking to buy a bicycle for commuting and leisure rides.
Prices and Specifications/Components are subject to change by the brand, without due notice.

I ride this cycle daily to my office which is 3 km from my home. Occasionally I take it on long rides(25 to 40km...may be not so long ride!😁). It has comfortable sadle, powerful brakes, gears are efficient (though they tend to misalign now and then....
After riding 400km, I can say the bike is very good. The team at bikeark has successfully achieved making a bike that is inexpensive yet well designed and built. Individual parts that are used here are same as those used in some relatively more expen...
