Avanti started their journey way back in 1985 and have grown to become an established and performance focused Bicycle brand with Road bikes, Hybrids, MTBs and Triathlon Bicycles as well. Avanti have recently forayed into the Indian market and we got the opportunity to test ride the Avanti Giro FM1 - Women and here is what we thought.
Weight: 12.4kgs
Usage: Commute/Fitness
The Avanti Giro FM1 - Women is built on an ADT 6061 Formtech Alloy Hybrid frame which is strong yet lightweight. During the test ride this women’s specific frame was able to handle the minor bumps and potholes on urban roads without transferring too much vibration to rider from the surface. The frame geometry is an ideal mix of comfort and aggressiveness with a slight lean in front required to reach the handlebar from the saddle. The slanting bottom tube makes this Avanti model specifically designed for Women riders as it helps in getting on and off the cycle easily. This Hybrid Bicycle is also equipped with chromoly bladed rigid fork.
The Avanti Giro FM1 - Women which we test rode came with White as its primary colour on its frame with Purple and Grey as the secondary colours. The graphics for the logo and text were minimal which made the design pattern simple yet elegant. The thin tubes made the Bicycle look sleek and elegant. The matte finish paint job quality definitely enhanced the overall aesthetics of this Bicycle.
This Hybrid Bicycle comes with microShift’s Acolyte 8-Speed rear derailleur and no front derailleur. Aimed primarily at beginner level Hybrids and MTBs, the Acolyte’s obvious attraction is its simplicity and reliability in terms of performance. The microShift Acolyte features a clutch mechanism. They call it the Spring Lock chain retention system and it ensures the chain is under sufficient tension even as the Bicycle gets bounced around over rough terrain. The main purpose of that is to reduce the chances of the chain coming off. The clutch can be switched on and off with a turn of the engagement bolt on the derailleur. The microShift Acolyte 8-Speed shifter features a display that shows the rider which gear the rider is in.
Tektro’s Airies Mechanical Disc brakes handle the braking performance on the Avanti Giro FM1 - Women Hybrid Bicycle. These brakes were powerful and balanced on urban roads and felt safe to use even at top speeds and turns. Tektro’s brakes are trust worthy and are long lasting as well.
The Alloy handlebar was wide enough for a comfortable riding posture the slight raise from the middle keeps the rider upright while riding.
The Kenda Kwick Roller 700x35C Hybrid tires were well treaded to handle rough roads and were sleek enough to zip through traffic on urban roads. The tread patterns also makes sure smaller punctures on urban roads are avoided.
The Zero Sport saddle was ergonomically designed with the perfect width to make sure the rider is comfortable during commute and long rides.
